The range of PMR446 two-way radios varies greatly depending on the environment. Although manufacturers advertise a maximum range of up to 10 km, this figure is based on ideal conditions—for example, hilltop-to-hilltop communication. However, in built-up areas, the range will be much shorter. Obstacles such as trees, walls, hills, and even weather conditions can significantly affect performance.
